Today, we are going to delve a bit deeper into the benefits of seaweed skincare and in particular, how the use of seaweed extracts in our products can play an important role in aiding skin repair.
A normal skincare routine, using standard products such as cleansers and moisturisers, may be sufficient for most, without any adverse effects from known skin irritants such as parabens or sulfates. However, increasing numbers of people are known to struggle with what would be considered ‘problem skin’. This is probably not entirely surprising, given the ongoing proliferation of chemicals and additives, artificial fragrances and preservatives that seem to be present in anything from food, cosmetics to baby care products these days.
Whilst conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis can of course be treated and generally contained with the aid of mainstream pharmaceutical products, such as steroid creams and medicated soaps or solutions, would it not be great if nature was able to lend a helping hand?
Spotlight on seaweed please!
So, what is it that makes seaweed so special? Well, apart from being packed with antioxidants, natural amino acids, minerals and vitamins, it is also a super achiever when it comes to reducing carbon in the earth’s atmosphere. It grows in abundance across most of the world’s oceans and, if that was not enough, it is good enough to eat!
For thousands of years, nature’s medicine cabinet has included seaweed. What our great, great, great, grandparents knew already (and probably took for granted) is now being backed up by a growing body of scientific research. The overriding conclusion is that the biological efficacy of seaweed in respect of anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, immune-stimulant and even anti-tumour qualities has now been proven beyond doubt.
All of these qualities translate into the perfect natural approach to skincare. Let’s face it - oxidative stress, caused by excessive sun exposure and general environmental pollution, can be a major cause of inflammation, which after all is the body’s natural response to infection or injury. However, if left untreated, inflammation can become chronic, resulting in permanent tissue damage.
At Maiiro, we believe a clear complexion and healthy, perfectly hydrated skin can only be achieved if we have a good balance of what goes in (diet) and a range of clean beauty products - what goes on. This is why we are so passionate about the quality of ingredients that go into our products. Having identified seaweed as a super nourisher, we have done our very best to capture those qualities to make sure all the above can make a real difference to your skin. We can’t stop time, but we are doing the best we can!
To conclude our blog, the feedback we have received since launch last year has been nothing short of incredible. Not only are clients enjoying our products for their obvious quality and luxurious feel, we are also receiving quite a few encouraging comments about skin complaints that have either improved or disappeared altogether. Whilst we are not in a position to, and would not want to make any medical claims, it seems our organic seaweed soap and anti-blemish organic seaweed skin cream in particular are making a real difference!
More on this will follow when we launch the dedicated seaweed skincare testimonial page on our website, something we are obviously very excited about!
