No Parabens, No Sulphates, No Phthalates

A long, long time ago - long before there was a global cosmetics industry - people relied on home-made skincare recipes, often handed down over many generations. No ready-made products, just ingredients. Locally, seaweed was traditionally used for a range of things, from soil fertiliser to home-made tinctures and skin creams.

Today, the sheer amount of skincare products for sale on the market is overwhelming - a product for every skin type or condition - yet, with very few exceptions, it is virtually impossible to find any mainstream producers that offer paraben free products. Whether we like it or not, parabens, phthalates and sulphates are essentially part of the package. However, it is now widely recognised that many skin conditions are actually aggravated by these compounds, raising the question why they found their way into our daily skin care routine in the first place.

I am afraid the answer is plain and simple. Profit.

Parabens, a controversial group of chemical preservatives with anti-microbial properties, are commonly added to extend product shelf life – great news for manufacturers and retailers. Sodium Laurel Sulphate is added to improve lather in soaps and shampoos, but is a known skin irritant. Some chemicals are added simply to improve overall viscosity of products and, being by-products of the petrochemical industry, costs to manufacturers are low.

Still, nothing wrong with maximising profits if it does not hurt anyone right?

But here’s the catch - it is well known that these compounds actually can and do hurt quite a lot of people, particularly those with sensitive skin types. Instead of improving their condition and making their skin feel and look better, additives such as phthalates, sulphates and parabens are potentially making things worse.

Maiiro aims to do much better than that. We offer a real natural alternative, producing not only the best natural skincare products, but the best Organic skincare products. We want to make things better and become part of peoples’ daily skin care routine – after all, we are trying to look after the largest organ in the human body.

Our founder’s grandmother used her own skincare recipe well into her eighties, resulting in silky soft skin. It is this secret recipe that was the inspiration for our trademarked formulation, Kelpogen5, and the bedrock of the company’s philosophy – using mother nature’s bountiful supply of nourishing ingredients, without the use or necessity for chemicals or additives.

Skincare as it should be – naturally.
